Welcome back-2nd quarter science focuses on Earth's atmosphere and weather.
Homework week of 10/2 Watch, take the graded quiz, submit your score to [email protected] for the brainpop entitled Earth's atmosphere by Friday October 6th. Study the brainpop-excellent short effective resource on the Earth's atmosphere. Create a personal one page study guide on atmosphere powerpoint in science google classroom. Study guide is due on Friday 10/6. Listed below are the Wake County academic expectations regarding 2nd quarter proficiency indicators. Beside each expectation is the week(s) we will covering the material. The format for class will be the same this quarter-Monday/Tuesday direct instruction, this quarter via google classroom, Wednesday/Thursday 8 mini stations/labs, and Friday a quiz or test to assess learning. Each week there will be at least 2 homework assignments posted to weebly on Sunday and due on Friday. I am planning on two unit tests, two interpreting data quizzes, a 2nd quarter project on severe weather-storms (test grade), 2 informal quizzes, and a benchmark. Each week I use smartblock to work with each class an additional session. Generally, Monday will be 7th period, Tuesday is 3rd, Wednesday 1st, Thursday 8th and Friday is set aside for students keeping an interactive science journal. Track in week the smartblock schedule will be different. Weekly schedules are posted outside the classroom door on Monday. 7.E.1.1 Compare the composition, properties and structure of Earth’s atmosphere to include: mixtures of gases and differences in temperature and pressure within layers-Week of 10/2 and 10/9. Informal atmosphere quiz 10/6. Interpreting data quiz on Friday 10/13. 7.E.1.2 Explain how the cycling of water in and out of the atmosphere and atmospheric conditions relate to the weather patterns on Earth-Week of 10/16. Informal water cycling quiz on 10/20 7.E.1.3 Explain the relationship between the movement of air masses, high and low pressure systems, and frontal boundaries of storms (including thunderstorms, hurricanes, and tornadoes) and other weather conditions that may result-Week of 10/23 and 10/30. Unit test on atmosphere/weather factors 10/27 7.E.1.4 Predict weather conditions and patterns based on information obtained from: weather data collected from direct observations and measurement (wind speed and direction, air temperature, humidity and air pressure); weather maps, satellites and radar; cloud shapes and types and associated elevation-Week of 10/30 and 11/6. Informal weather factor quiz 11/3 and 11/9 Interpreting data weather factors 7.E.1.5 Explain the influence of convection, global winds and the jet stream on weather and climatic conditions. Week of 11/13 Unit test on predicting weather 11/17 2nd quarter science benchmark Monday November 20th Week of 11/27 2nd quarter severe weather project-in class time offered on Monday 11/27, Tuesday 11/28 and Wednesday 11/29. Thursday 11/30 semester review game-severe weather project due. Friday 11/30 team day 7.E.1.6 Conclude that the good health of humans requires: monitoring of the atmosphere, maintaining air quality and stewardship-covered with a homework assignment
