Powerschools has been updated with atmosphere review cube-hw and atmosphere/water cycle unit test.
Science homework policy needs to be adjusted. Students are consistently procrastinating and therefore ALL science homework will now be due on Wednesdays. I will make every effort to post it on Fridays. Students will still have Sunday evening, Monday and Tuesday. Last Friday most 7/1 got started with this week's homework after the unit test. This week's classwork: Monday-station loose ends from last week. Tuesday-remediation or enrichment lesson. Wednesday/Thursday-this week's stations. Friday-brainpop quiz on weather and humidity. Questions will be taken directly from brainpop review quizzes. Homework week of 10/30-watch the brainpops on weather and humidity. Complete and submit the graded quizzes. STUDY the brianpop questions for Friday's quiz. Psychrometer chart math problems. All due on Wednesday November 1st.

Powerschools has been updated with all most recent hw, quizzes, classwork. I have several students finishing the air composition lab this upcoming Friday and then it will post.
This Friday 7/1 students will have their first 2nd quarter unit test. I will cover the following Wake County Objectives. Please note that I have provided what I believe is the best review/reteach/explore resource for the topic. 7.E.1.1 Compare the composition, properties and structure of Earth’s atmosphere to include: mixtures of gases and differences in temperature and pressure within layers properities: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G94u2w8OoQ 9mins Layers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CibvtVMTA2E 3:17 mins composition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmuLP1jLGSg 22 seconds pollution: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11oawjSncYM 1:28 mins 7.E.1.2 Explain how the cycling of water in and out of the atmosphere and atmospheric conditions relate to the weather patterns on Earth resource: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaDkph9yQBs 5:52 mins 7.E.1.3 Explain the relationship between the movement of air masses, high and low pressure systems, and frontal boundaries of storms resource: air masses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QGZyfJmQbE 1:16 mins Frontal boundaries: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuyyilOJrb4 1:31 mins Jet stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd__PiquUoo 1:24 mins Homework week of 10/22: Please use the suggested resources to review/reteach/explore 1.1 and 1.2. This week focus on air masses, high and low pressure and frontal boundaries. While watching the air mass and frontal boundary tutorials create a topic review dice. Each side of the di should focus on a concept you need extra practice with. You can roll the dice with study partner and give points to the person who can best explain the material. Monday, a template for the cube will be handed out in class. This week Monday and Tuesday you will be traveling through 8 mini stations on air pressure/convection currents/fronts. Wednesday I will be doing demonstrations on warm/cold density, dew point, hail, uneven heating of Earth's surface, weather equipment, states of matter. Thursday the entire class period will be review activities to prepare for the Friday unit test. Students who did not demonstrate proficiency with 1st quarter material will begin a series of remediation lessons this week. Time in school will be provided during required smartblock attendance: 7th Monday, 3rd Tuesday, 1st Wednesday, and 8th Thursday. Powerschools was not available this weekend. I will be adding the following grades this week-atmosphere stations-week 1, interpreting data quiz-week 2, air pressure homework-week 2, and air composition lab-week 2.
Homework: watch and submit the water cycle brainpop. Complete the layers of the atmosphere graph. Although density and altitude are properties of air and extremely important in understanding why the Earth has weather. Temperature is the dominate variable that is used to classify/define which atmospheric layer is being discussed. This week 7/1 students will have be completing a NASA webquest Monday-Thursday via google classroom. Additional enrichment activities will be offered to students who finish the webquest before class ends on Thursday-water cycle rap dance, water cycle art, water cycle crossword/kahoot. At the completion of each water cycle webquest section students will complete a "checking for understanding" question. Friday 7/1 students will be taking a quiz that covers properties of air and the water cycle. Suggested study resources-the 3 weather variable video-temperature, pressure, and density (located in google classroom). Water cycle brainpop review quiz questions and summary video in this week's NASA webquest. Complete questions 1-6 on How does atmospheric pressure affect the weather worksheet.
Use temperature/weather simulation to improve your understanding of how this weather variable affects daily conditions https://socratic.org/questions/how-does-temperature-affect-the-atmosphere-and-cause-weather. Go to the weather underground website. Find temperature, air pressure in inches and dewpoint for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday- https://www.wunderground.com/weather/us/nc/raleigh. Enter the found data into the National Weather Service density calculator https://www.weather.gov/epz/wxcalc_densityaltitude to explore how these variables cause their affect. Most of this week's homework will reflect integrity with lesson follow through. The written HW is due on Friday 10/13. (This week's homework/classwork is essential to understanding the lessons 2nd quarter-PLEASE MAKE PERSONAL INVESTMENT) Powerschools has been updated with 3 grades-Earth's atmosphere BP, Personalized study guide based on self identified areas of need, and Friday's 10 question quiz on Earth's atmosphere. Pride points in science this week were "awarded" to several students for: dedication to the quality completion of their station work using collaboration/critical thinking/effective communication. Excellence in the completion of their personal study guide-locating and using new resources: NASA, National Geographic, Discovery Ed..etc. Proactive investment in the week's content by finishing and submitting brainpop assignment Monday. Friday's interpreting data quiz has all needed answers on the test. Students need to use given information to determine correct answers. The questions are all application and require strong critical thinking skills. |
