To all 7/1 students, thank you for your investment in your personal education and thank you for using the provided "tools". I will post benchmark scores to powerschools as a "ghost" grade-they can be viewed but will not be entered into your official 2nd quarter grade. This week's lessons will focus on reteaching/reassessing 1st quarter content identified as not mastered by a significant number of 7/1 students. Monday-speed/velocity/acceleration. Tuesday-balanced/unbalanced forces. Wednesday-parallel/series circuit identification and pendulum swing analysis for PE/KE transformations. Thursday-Quiz on commonly missed concepts 1st and 2nd quarter. Wednesday-science priority day, see needed student list. Thursday-science art journal. Friday-track out day activities, no smartblock. Powerschools has been updated with the predicting weather unit test. I did choose to omit a question because it really needs a graphic for better understanding. The Monday benchmark has the graphic for land and sea breezes.
Please continue to use the 2nd quarter review quizlet posted here: https://quizlet.com/241183223/2nd-quarter-weatheratmosphere-review-flash-cards/ Monday/Tuesday of next week-benchmark and continued work on the tornado and hurricane venn diagram that will a 2nd quarter project grade. Track out week we will be doing lessons that reteach/review core concepts that are weak for almost all 7/1 students from 1st and 2nd quarter. Thursday of track out week all 7/1 students will take a quiz to see if the reteaching/review has improved understanding. I am creating and will post a quizlet that will contain the 11/30 quiz content. Next week there is no assignment homework, but students that are not done with their tornado and hurricane venn diagram should complete it at home and bring it back to school on Tuesday 11/28 completed. All of Tuesday's classtime will be set aside for work on the Venn diagram Comparison chart for tornado and hurricane venn diagram
https://www.diffen.com/difference/Hurricane_vs_Tornado Powerschool was NOT updated over the weekend, but several grades will be added the week of 11/13/2017. This week 7/1 students will take the weather predicting unit test on Thursday. This is a particularly challenging test because it requires students to use/apply all the weather variables we have been studying. I will be using smartblock this week to do in school review for this test. I will work with each class using the following schedule: Monday-7th, Tuesday-3rd, Wednesday-1st, and Thursday-8th. If a student has a conflict they need to see me to make arrangements to attend a different session. This week's homework is: watch and then submit graded quiz for hurricane and tornado brainpops-due Wednesday 11/15. Additionally, use this review quizlet to practice all 2nd quarter material. Once you have used the practice options and can score an 80, take a quizlet created test and screen shot your score to turn by Friday 11/17. https://quizlet.com/241183223/2nd-quarter-weatheratmosphere-review-flash-cards/ This week's classwork will focus on reviewing everything we have been studying. Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday-teacher directed review lessons. Thursday-assessment. Friday-collaborative hurricane/tornado lesson. No student led stations this week. Below are the Wake County learning objectives for 2nd quarter and a selected review video for the content. Students should be using these resources for review/reteaching. 7/1 students will take their science benchmark on Monday 11/20 and Tuesday 11/21. 7.E.1.1 Compare the composition, properties and structure of Earth’s atmosphere to include: mixtures of gases and differences in temperature and pressure within layers properities: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G94u2w8OoQ 9mins Layers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CibvtVMTA2E 3:17 mins composition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmuLP1jLGSg 22 seconds pollution: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11oawjSncYM 1:28 mins 7.E.1.2 Explain how the cycling of water in and out of the atmosphere and atmospheric conditions relate to the weather patterns on Earth resource: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaDkph9yQBs 5:52 mins 7.E.1.3 Explain the relationship between the movement of air masses, high and low pressure systems, and frontal boundaries of storms resource: air masses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QGZyfJmQbE 1:16 mins Frontal boundaries: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuyyilOJrb4 1:31 mins Jet stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd__PiquUoo 1:24 mins 7.E.1.4 Predict weather conditions and patterns based on information obtained from: weather data collected from direct observations and measurement (wind speed and direction, air temperature, humidity and air pressure); weather maps, satellites and radar; cloud shapes and types and associated elevation. Science homework policy needs to be adjusted. Students are consistently procrastinating and therefore ALL science homework will now be due on Wednesdays. I will make every effort to post it on Fridays. Students will still have Sunday evening, Monday and Tuesday. Last Friday most 7/1 got started with this week's homework after the unit test. This week's classwork: Monday-station loose ends from last week. Tuesday-remediation or enrichment lesson. Wednesday/Thursday-this week's stations. Friday-brainpop quiz on weather and humidity. Questions will be taken directly from brainpop review quizzes. Homework week of 10/30-watch the brainpops on weather and humidity. Complete and submit the graded quizzes. STUDY the brianpop questions for Friday's quiz. Psychrometer chart math problems. All due on Wednesday November 1st. Powerschools has been updated with all most recent hw, quizzes, classwork. I have several students finishing the air composition lab this upcoming Friday and then it will post.
This Friday 7/1 students will have their first 2nd quarter unit test. I will cover the following Wake County Objectives. Please note that I have provided what I believe is the best review/reteach/explore resource for the topic. 7.E.1.1 Compare the composition, properties and structure of Earth’s atmosphere to include: mixtures of gases and differences in temperature and pressure within layers properities: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G94u2w8OoQ 9mins Layers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CibvtVMTA2E 3:17 mins composition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmuLP1jLGSg 22 seconds pollution: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11oawjSncYM 1:28 mins 7.E.1.2 Explain how the cycling of water in and out of the atmosphere and atmospheric conditions relate to the weather patterns on Earth resource: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaDkph9yQBs 5:52 mins 7.E.1.3 Explain the relationship between the movement of air masses, high and low pressure systems, and frontal boundaries of storms resource: air masses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QGZyfJmQbE 1:16 mins Frontal boundaries: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuyyilOJrb4 1:31 mins Jet stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gd__PiquUoo 1:24 mins Homework week of 10/22: Please use the suggested resources to review/reteach/explore 1.1 and 1.2. This week focus on air masses, high and low pressure and frontal boundaries. While watching the air mass and frontal boundary tutorials create a topic review dice. Each side of the di should focus on a concept you need extra practice with. You can roll the dice with study partner and give points to the person who can best explain the material. Monday, a template for the cube will be handed out in class. This week Monday and Tuesday you will be traveling through 8 mini stations on air pressure/convection currents/fronts. Wednesday I will be doing demonstrations on warm/cold density, dew point, hail, uneven heating of Earth's surface, weather equipment, states of matter. Thursday the entire class period will be review activities to prepare for the Friday unit test. Students who did not demonstrate proficiency with 1st quarter material will begin a series of remediation lessons this week. Time in school will be provided during required smartblock attendance: 7th Monday, 3rd Tuesday, 1st Wednesday, and 8th Thursday. |
