Powerschools was not available this weekend. I will be adding the following grades this week-atmosphere stations-week 1, interpreting data quiz-week 2, air pressure homework-week 2, and air composition lab-week 2.
Homework: watch and submit the water cycle brainpop. Complete the layers of the atmosphere graph. Although density and altitude are properties of air and extremely important in understanding why the Earth has weather. Temperature is the dominate variable that is used to classify/define which atmospheric layer is being discussed. This week 7/1 students will have be completing a NASA webquest Monday-Thursday via google classroom. Additional enrichment activities will be offered to students who finish the webquest before class ends on Thursday-water cycle rap dance, water cycle art, water cycle crossword/kahoot. At the completion of each water cycle webquest section students will complete a "checking for understanding" question. Friday 7/1 students will be taking a quiz that covers properties of air and the water cycle. Suggested study resources-the 3 weather variable video-temperature, pressure, and density (located in google classroom). Study guide is due on Friday 10/6. Listed below are the Wake County academic expectations regarding 2nd quarter proficiency indicators. Beside each expectation is the week(s) we will covering the material. The format for class will be the same this quarter-Monday/Tuesday direct instruction, this quarter via google classroom, Wednesday/Thursday 8 mini stations/labs, and Friday a quiz or test to assess learning. Power schools has been updated with Bill Nye simple machine homework. Additionally, the classwork score for week six stations has been added. This week I will be adding a classwork grade for week 5. Many students struggled to complete an accurate graph for their hotwheel speed lab. Setting up a graph-x axis intervals, y axis intervals, and plotting coordinate pairs based on real data is an important part of hands on science.
This upcoming week our unit of study will focus on electricity moving through electrical circuits-series/parallel. Monday-simple machine assessment, 7th grade. Tuesday-direct teacher instruction on electrical circuits-series/parallel. Wednesday/Thursday students will rotate through stations on electrical circuits and cumulative review of motion, Newton’s laws, forces. Friday students will begin working on their end of quarter physic project. In class time for the project will be offered Friday 9/1-Wednesday 9/6. Students can work in partner pairs with parent permission. This week's homework is an outstanding electricity/electrical circuit video less than 10mins long. Watch the video, pause after each minute and create a personal study guide. This upcoming week our unit of study will focus on how force is used by machines. Monday we will have direct instruction-notes of six simple machines. Tuesday we will do whole group activities related to the six simple machines. Wednesday/Thursday students will rotate through stations on the six simple machine, one review/enrichment station on 8 types of forces and a momentum lab. Friday students will have a test on what has been learned through out the week. This week's homework is a Bill Nye video on simple machines. This week 7/1 students need to watch, STUDY, and then complete-submit the classic quiz for the Newton's laws of motion brainpop and Forces brainpop. When prompted send your classic quiz results to [email protected] MANY 7/1 students are waiting until the end of the week to do their science homework. It looses its effectiveness when done at the last minute. I post Sunday and collect Friday so everyone can complete the work when they have quality time/focused time. Test and quiz score will improve if homework is used as out of school instruction. While having my Saturday morning coffee- cup moving relative to my stationary deck and table-reference points, I GREATLY enjoyed reading ALL the quality assignments done and turned in by most 7/1 students!:)-thank you for your dedication, perseverance, and personal standards of excellence. This week most 7/1 science classes will have students leaders. I am excited to see each classroom community exhibiting and recognizing one another for PRIDE excellence! This week we will begin studying motion. Monday/Tuesday will be direct teacher instruction. Wednesday/Thursday classes with either continue with direct teacher instruction or participate in 8 activity stations. It is my hope that all classes and all students will exhibit the self control needed for stations. Friday August 4th students will have their second interpreting data quiz on motion. This particular assessment looks at person's ability to use given information. Science homework due this upcoming Friday 8/4. Watch the short, but very important video on reference points. When studying motion you have to be able to identify and use reference points. Since the video is very short, please make plans to watch if several times. After watching the video find an object in your surrounding-inside or outside and describe it's motion in comparison to a reference point you select. You will need to write out a paragraph summary of your thoughts-descriptors. An well done assignment should be about a 10-15 sentences in length. Students explored kinetic and potential energy by participating in a series of 8 stations that required writing, drawing, organizing, watching/listening, and reading. Station work requires all students to demonstrate self-discipline and maturity as they rotate to each location-some classes are needing direct instruction on PRIDE expectations related to this lesson format. I will continue to review expectations and post behavior expectations for each location.

Friday 7/28 all 7/1 will have their first science unit test on kinetic/potential energy and energy transfers/transformations. Science homework this week: Watch the Bill Nye the science guy energy video that can be found on you tube. The video reviews, reinforces, and is an enjoyable way to prepare for Friday's unit test. While watching the video you will need to complete the video study guide-I will hand out on Monday. The video is about 30 minutes long.
